Thursday, August 30th, I got up...gave Ryder a hair cut, bathed & dressed all the kids, vacuumed the house, loaded the rest of the stuff in the car, got a movie going for the kids, stopped and got me a drink & then headed to Salt Lake to pick Phil up from work by 11. Then we were on the road and on our way to California for our vacation! Our first stop would be to see Phil's parents, who are serving a mission in Ventura, CA.
We spotted the St. George Temple. We usually drive through the night mostly, so we don't get to see all the sites. Leaving early than we normally do, we got to see a few fun things.
The kids did awesome on the long drive...good thing for those DVD players though!
Snack time!
Before we got to Vegas we started seeing some really neat lightening off in the distance. Didn't drive through any of it really, but it was neat to watch.
We arrived in Oxnard around 10PM that evening. The kids woke up for a little to chat with Mom-Mom & Poppa before we headed to bed.
We woke up the morning and the kids wanted to walk across the street to see the ocean...yes, they live right across the street from this little cove that is in the harbor. How cool is that? And there aren't really "waves" there because it's in the harbor, so it was perfect for the kids to play in.
They couldn't wait to even change out of their PJ's.
Piper kept pointing at all the Seagulls and Pelicans and then chasing after them.
Poppa found a little crab for Ryder.
Cami came to see it.
They loved getting in the water and didn't think it was too cold, until they got out.
Throwing rocks.
We spotted some seals off in the distance that we watched for a little. Then headed inside to get some breakfast and head out to do a little shopping & see Mom-Mom and Poppa's office. Took the kids to the coolest park and then stopped to get some of the best pizza ever! We bought kites from the dollar store and the kids couldn't wait to try them out when we got home.
Love this shot of my boys looking out into the harbor!
Went for a little walk and Ryder was finding all sorts of treasures to carry around.
Even found an old telephone booth!
And a huge Starfish{which are now called Sea Stars}...it's wrapped around the rock right in the middle of the photo. It's kind of hard to see, but it was pretty big.
Then the kids changed and headed back to the beach to play some more.
Flying the kites again.
Just the two of us!
Love these shots of Piper looking at the Pelicans.
The next morning we were leaving Oxnard & heading to Oceanside to meet up with some of my family. We took a little walk before we left and had to say goodbye to Phil's parents. Tried to get a family picture, but the sun was right in our face and the kids weren't really looking.
Phil with his parents...talking about life and watching the kids play in the sand.
We left around 11am and were hoping to make it to Oceanside by 2, but didn't get there until after 3:30. Traffic was horrible and most of the time we were lucky if we were going 20MPH. We couldn't wait to get out of the car and see my family!
